Bestiary of l’Espluga de Francolí

Our bestiary is made up of three popular Catalan beasts. All of them represent real animals of the fauna around l’Espluga de Francolí, at the foot of the Poblet forest and on the northern slope of the Prades mountains.

In this rich natural setting, with very diverse and truly Mediterranean fauna, the wild boar holds a very special place. It is no surprise, then, that the wild boar inspired the first beast of the Grup de Diables de l’Espluga de Francolí. When the children’s group was born, a smaller wild boar was built to accompany the youngest devils and drummers.

The Senglar is the main beast of the Colla Gran and the small Senglar is the main beast of the Colla Infantil. Both accompany the devils at correfocs and parades. The Mussol (owl) completes the association’s bestiary.
