The Colla Gran
The Colla Gran of the Grup de Diables de l’Espluga de Francolí is structured into three sections: the devils, the drummers and the bestiary.
The devils
Under the command of the Diable Major (Chief Devil, Lucifer) and the Diablessa (She-Devil), the devils show off the strength of hell: they run, dance and jump at correfocs and other shows. Death also makes an appearance and, with her scythe, clears a path among the devils. These mythological beings roam the streets of towns and cities and dance with their ceptrots (fire sceptres) and pitchforks, under the great protagonist, fire.
Other devils, the ones in red jackets, supply fire and fireworks (carretilles) to the diabolical troops so that their joyful, festive march never stops.
The drummers
The drummers are the other fundamental part of the entertainment and the show. About fifteen percussion musicians bring the rhythm to the correfocs, the pyromusical shows, the parades and any kind of stage, fusing batucada with the traditional rhythms of the devils.
Besides accompanying the correfocs and performing together with the devils, the drummers also perform on their own wherever needed, and they guarantee a party and good rapport with the audience.
The bestiary
The Senglar (wild boar) is the main beast of the Colla Gran and accompanies the devils at correfocs and parades. Get to know it in the bestiary.
